Yerevan seeks a peace deal with Baku without key clauses

Yerevan urgently wants to sign a peace treaty with Baku without several clauses. This desire of Armenia shows that Yerevan still does not officially want to recognize Karabakh as part of Azerbaijan.

Axar.az reports that Russian political scientist Sergey Markov said this in an interview with "Moscow-Baku."

"Here's the scheme that Pashinyan wants to show the world: The Armenian government is very friendly, constructive, and ready to make peace with Azerbaijan. But in reality, this is not the case. Yerevan wants to continue trade and send messages to Azerbaijan on certain issues: help us. They are indeed being helped. France, the EU, and the USA are trying to pressure Azerbaijan to sign the agreement quickly based on Yerevan's conditions. The West is principled in supporting Yerevan, including in the so-called Armenia-Azerbaijan settlement issue," he said.

Markov emphasized that signing an unsatisfactory agreement between Baku and Yerevan based on the Western scenario will pave the way for a new war between Azerbaijan and Armenia:

"The West has achieved global dominance through armed conflicts. The West wants to keep the South Caucasus in turmoil. It tries to manage the region with the help of emerging new conflicts. The West desires control over oil and gas in Azerbaijan. The West is pulling at the South Caucasus like a dog pulls at raw meat. Azerbaijan will not sign any truncated peace agreement. It will wait.
