The West Azerbaijan Community has commented on the U.S. position towards Azerbaijan.
Axar.az reports that the Community has issued a statement regarding this matter.
It was noted that a group of U.S. Congress members wrote a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken on October 3, 2024, expressing an unacceptable stance against Azerbaijan:
"The Congress members are attempting to advance issues that contradict international law, including the release of those responsible for war crimes, by exploiting Azerbaijan's hosting of COP29 and serving Armenia's agenda, thereby reigniting conflicts in the region. This is blatant blackmail."
It has been emphasized that Azerbaijan's selection as the host for COP29 is unanimous decision supported by the contracting states of the convention:
'Azerbaijan hosting COP29 is a contribution to solving global problems. The attempts by Congress members to use the COP29 issue as a tool for blackmail are directed not only against Azerbaijan but against the entire world and international efforts regarding climate change. The authors of the blackmailing appeal have such strong hatred towards Azerbaijan that they do not even try to hide their discrimination against Azerbaijanis based on ethnic and religious grounds, including their indifference to the ethnic cleansing of over one million Azerbaijanis from Armenia and formerly occupied Azerbaijani territories, and the devastation and mining of those areas by Armenia. The style and content of the appeal leave no doubt that it was drafted in the U.S. State Department"
The Community emphasized in its statement that it demands the U.S. to stop its policy of blackmail and racial discrimination against Azerbaijan, as well as attempts to create new conflicts in the region, and to respect the right of Azerbaijanis expelled from Armenia to return to their homes.
