Maldives recalls Ambassador over meeting with Taliban

The Maldives has recalled its ambassador to Pakistan, Mohammad Thoha.

Axar.az reports that the reason for this is the ambassador's meeting with a representative of the Taliban movement.

Last week, a meeting took place in Islamabad between the Maldivian diplomat and Sardar Ahmad Shakib, a spokesperson for the Taliban.

Photos from the meeting circulating on social media have sparked discussions about whether the Maldives recognizes the Taliban regime in Afghanistan.

In response, the Maldives Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement clarifying that the diplomat's meeting was not officially authorized.
