German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has taken responsibility for the Social Democratic Party’s (SPD) defeat in the elections.

Axar.az reports that Scholz made this statement in his speech.

"This is a bitter result for the party, a loss in the elections," he said.

Scholz congratulated Friedrich Merz, leader of the conservative Christian Democratic Union and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) bloc, on his victory.

Notably, parliamentary elections were held in Germany today. According to exit polls, the CDU/CSU Merz bloc won with 29% of the vote.

The far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party secured second place with a record 20%, while Scholz’s SPD recorded its worst "historical result," finishing third with 16.5%.
