UN Secretary-General António Guterres has welcomed the ceasefire agreement reached today between India and Pakistan, expressing hope that it will pave the way for long-term peace.

Axar.az reports that Guterres described the development as a “positive step toward halting military operations and reducing tensions.”

“The Secretary-General welcomes the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan as a positive step toward halting military operations and reducing tensions. He hopes that the agreement will contribute to the establishment of lasting peace and help create conditions for resolving the longstanding issues between the two countries,” the statement read.

It should be noted that, despite the agreement, earlier footage had emerged showing violations of the ceasefire along the border.
