Astronomers plan to film first-ever video of a black hole

Astronomers involved in the international Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) project are planning to capture the first-ever video of a black hole in March–April.

Axar.az reports that The Guardian wrote about this, citing Professor of Astronomy and Experimental Philosophy at the University of Cambridge, Sir Markoff.

According to the report, astronomers have selected a cosmic object the size of the Solar System with a mass of six billion Suns for the filming.

“For the first time, astronomers are preparing to record the motion of a supermassive black hole,” the publication said.

The newspaper noted that the Event Horizon Telescope is a network of 12 radio telescopes located around the world, from Antarctica to Spain and Korea. In 2019, astronomers from the project published the world’s first image of a black hole’s shadow.
