Two powerful solar flares erupt on the Sun

Two solar flares of the highest class occurred on Monday.

Axar.az reports that citing TASS this was shared by the Institute of Applied Geophysics (FGBU "IPG").

"On December 30 at 07:14 MSK (08:14 Baku time), an X1.5 flare lasting 37 minutes was registered in the X-ray range in sunspot group 3936 (N10W46).

At 07:32 MSK (08:32 Baku time), an X1.1 flare lasting 5 minutes was registered in the X-ray range in sunspot group 3932 (S18W50)," the statement says.

In addition, six more M-class flares occurred on the Sun.

Solar flares are classified into five categories based on the strength of X-ray radiation: A, B, C, M, and X. The minimum A0.0 class corresponds to a radiation power of 10 nanowatts per square meter at Earth's orbit. As you move to the next letter, the power increases by a factor of 10. Flares are usually accompanied by solar plasma ejections, and their clouds, upon reaching Earth, can provoke geomagnetic storms.
