The famous Azerbaijani choreographer in Italy, Honored Artist of Azerbaijan, and Chair of the “Azəri” Azerbaijan Cultural Association operating in Italy, Mais Nuriyev, has passed away.
Axar.az reports that this was announced by the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
It was noted that Mais Nuriyev, professor at the “Aida” and “Orizon” Dance Academies in Milan and the Milan Conservatory, closely collaborated with the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of Azerbaijan, carrying out important work to bring Azerbaijanis living in Italy together and to promote Azerbaijani culture in Europe.
Our compatriot brought Azerbaijani folk dances to the world stage for many years and, through his professional work, introduced our rich cultural heritage, history, and national values in Italy and other countries, making significant contributions to cultural diplomacy. Thanks to his tireless teaching, many young choreographers have been trained, spreading our country’s cultural heritage to a wider international audience.
The choreographer held a prestigious position among the Italian public, played a serious role in strengthening the cultural bridge between the two countries, and made friends for our nation.
Mais Nuriyev was awarded the honorary title of Honored Artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan by the decree of President Ilham Aliyev, as well as the Jubilee Medal “100th Anniversary of Heydar Aliyev (1923-2023)” and the Medal “For Service in Diaspora Activities.”
The State Committee on Work with Diaspora of Azerbaijan expresses sorrow over the passing of Mais Nuriyev and extends deep condolences to his family, relatives, and the diaspora community.
