The subject rankings for 2026 have been published by one of the world’s leading ranking agencies, Times Higher Education (THE).

Axar.az reports that the Ministry of Science and Education provided this information.

It was noted that the number of Azerbaijani universities included in the ranking for 11 subject areas has reached 4 for the first time. Baku State University, Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, and Azerbaijan Technical University were included in the ranking in their respective fields.

It should be noted that 2 universities (Azerbaijan State University of Economics and Azerbaijan Technical University) have entered the subject rankings for the first time this year.

Additionally, the number of subject areas represented by Azerbaijani universities has also increased to 4 for the first time. In addition to "Engineering" and "Physical Sciences," this year Azerbaijan is represented in the "Business and Economics" and "Social Sciences" fields as follows:

- Engineering – Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Baku State University, Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University, Azerbaijan Technical University;

- Physical Sciences – Azerbaijan State University of Economics, Baku State University, Azerbaijan Technical University;

- Business and Economics – Azerbaijan State University of Economics;

- Social Sciences – Azerbaijan State University of Economics.

It should be noted that THE’s subject ranking methodology considers 18 indicators across 5 areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook."
