On April 30 at around 14:00, the Yasamal District Prosecutor’s Office received information about an explosion at the National Oncology Center of the Ministry of Health.

Axar.az reports that the General Prosecutor’s Office provided information on the matter.

Preliminary investigations established that Mubariz Sahib oghlu Aliyev, born in 1988 and registered as an oncology patient, allegedly attempted to intentionally kill doctor Asif Akif oghlu Nasirov by detonating an explosive device he had illegally obtained and carried inside the Radiology Department of the medical facility.

As a result of the explosion, Aliyev died at the scene from his injuries, while Dr. Nasirov sustained severe injuries and remains in critical condition, with treatment ongoing in hospital.

A joint investigative team consisting of law enforcement officers, with the participation of a medical expert, conducted an on-site inspection based on the initial findings. Material evidence relevant to the crime was collected in accordance with procedures, a forensic medical examination of the body was ordered, and other necessary procedural actions were carried out.

A criminal case has been opened by the Yasamal District Prosecutor’s Office under Articles 29, 120.2.4 (attempted murder committed in a generally dangerous manner) and 228.1 (illegal acquisition, storage, transportation, and carrying of explosives) of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The preliminary investigation is ongoing, with law enforcement agencies continuing efforts to determine the circumstances and cause of the incident, the source of the explosive device, and other relevant facts required for the investigation.
