The Prefect of the Vatican’s Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, Cardinal John Jacob Kouvakad, and the accompanying head of the Islamic Office of the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue, Father Laurent Basanez, will visit Azerbaijan starting tomorrow.
Axar.az reports, citing Repоrt, that this was stated by the Ambassador of the Holy See (Vatican) to Azerbaijan, Turkiye, and Turkmenistan, Apostolic Nuncio Archbishop Marek Solczynski.
The ambassador noted that relations between Azerbaijan and the Vatican serve as an example for the world and expressed confidence that the visit, which will begin tomorrow at the invitation of Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh, will create new opportunities for cooperation.
“Relations between Azerbaijan and the Vatican are at a very high level. Azerbaijan helps restore many works of art and historical buildings in the Vatican. We meet frequently and implement joint projects. We also have new plans and projects. Our relations are dynamic and develop depending on circumstances and emerging opportunities,” he said.
The visit will last until June 19. The delegation will be accompanied by Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to the Vatican, Ilgar Mukhtarov.
During the visit, the delegation is expected to tour the Catholic Church in Baku, Albanian churches in Gabala and Sheki, the “House of Tolerance” in Icherisheher, the Heydar Mosque in Baku, and also hold meetings with public representatives and members of the Milli Majlis.
