Russia: All AZAL crash issues resolved

Russia and Azerbaijan have resolved all issues arising from the crash of the AZAL passenger plane on December 25, 2024.

Axar.az reports that Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin made the statement in an interview with RTVI when asked whether the compensation issue had been fully settled and all payments completed.

“We have resolved all issues related to the aftermath of the Azerbaijani airliner's crash. However, these matters concern people who have endured a terrible tragedy and suffered an irreparable loss. Therefore, I would prefer not to go into further detail,” Galuzin said.

It should be noted that the AZAL Embraer 190, operating Flight J2-8243 from Baku to Grozny, crashed approximately three kilometers from the Kazakh city of Aktau on December 25, 2024.

There were 67 people on board, including 42 Azerbaijani citizens, 16 Russians, six Kazakh nationals, and three citizens of Kyrgyzstan. The crash claimed 38 lives.

According to preliminary investigation findings, the aircraft was hit by a Russian Pantsir-S air defense system while approaching Grozny.
