An international conference titled "Media and Decolonization: Raising Voices, Amplifying Narratives" was held in Baku today, organized by the Baku Initiative Group (BIG).

Axar.az reports that the event brought together media representatives from former and current colonial territories, as well as journalists, experts, diplomats, representatives of government agencies, diaspora organizations, and civil society institutions.

The conference featured two panel discussions.

“The media plays an irreplaceable role in communicating the outcomes of the decolonization process and related efforts to the international community,” said Abbas Abbasov, Executive Director of the Baku Initiative Group.

Abbasov praised the professionalism, dedication, and sense of responsibility demonstrated by journalists, emphasizing that their efforts make a significant contribution to raising global awareness. According to him, journalism requires a high level of professionalism, integrity, and responsibility, as well as the ability to work under intense pressure and make timely decisions.

He noted that over the past three years, the Baku Initiative Group has made significant progress in raising international awareness of the consequences of colonialism and the importance of the decolonization process. According to him, the media has played a particularly crucial role in these efforts.

“We commend your efforts and dedication in raising public awareness and drawing the attention of societies to these issues,” Abbas Abbasov emphasized.

The Executive Director also noted that the conference will feature two panel discussions dedicated to the topic of decolonization.
