US State Department extends Azerbaijan’s Section 907 waiver

US State Department has sent a notification to Congress on the extension of the period of exemption from the application of restrictions provided for in Amendment 907 of the "Freedom Support Act" regarding Azerbaijan.

Axar.az reports that, according to official documents of the US Congress, the State Department submitted the relevant notification to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on July 28 and to the House Foreign Relations Committee on August 10.

It should be noted that Section 907, adopted in 1992, restricts US assistance to Azerbaijan. In 2001, Congress authorized the US president to waive the restrictions. Since then, US presidents have annually extended the waiver of Section 907 and notified Congress.
