Major General Novruzov dies aged 89

Former Commander of Azerbaijan’s Border Guard Troops, Major General Abbasali Novruzov, has died.

Axar.az reports that Novruzov died this morning at the age of 89.

The general will be buried tomorrow. He is set to be laid to rest at the Military Memorial Cemetery.

Abbasali Ramazan oglu Novruzov was born in Baku in 1937.

He served for many years in the Soviet Border Troops. Following Heydar Aliyev’s return to power in 1993, Novruzov was appointed Deputy Minister of National Security of Azerbaijan and Commander of the Border Guard Troops on April 8, 1994. He held the position until 2001.
