As soon as information was received that a tourist group consisting of citizens of various countries, including Azerbaijani citizen Tatyana Dolivets, had encountered difficulties due to adverse weather conditions while traveling to the Tolbachik volcano on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Federation, our Embassy in the Russian Federation and our Consulate General in Yekaterinburg established contact with the relevant local authorities.
Axar.az reports that the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Russia has provided information on this matter.
It was emphasized that, at the same time, contact has been maintained with representatives of the Azerbaijani community operating in Kamchatka, and work is underway to promptly assess the situation and coordinate necessary measures:
"According to information shared on Tatyana Dolivets' social media account, while the tourist group was traveling towards the Tolbachik volcano in Kamchatka, the road they were using was flooded by mudflows caused by heavy rains and the river overflowing its banks. Due to the washing out of approximately 30 kilometers of road, the group's return is currently impossible."
It should be noted that the relevant state authorities of the Kamchatka region are currently in contact with the tourist group via satellite communication, and the situation is under control. Due to the unfavorable weather conditions observed in the region in recent days, the use of air transport, including helicopters, for the evacuation of the tourists has been limited.
Nevertheless, necessary measures are being taken to maintain contact with the group, regularly obtain information about their condition, and ensure their evacuation to a safe area as soon as weather conditions permit.
The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Consulate General in Yekaterinburg are keeping the matter under close attention and are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the relevant authorities of the Russian Federation, as well as the Azerbaijani community in Kamchatka.
