Customs duty on imported alcoholic beverages changed

The Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan has made amendments to the “Commodity Nomenclature of Foreign Economic Activity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Rates of Import Customs Duties and Rates of Export Customs Duties.”

Axar.az reports that, according to the decision, until December 31, 2030, the import customs duty on wine imported into the country will be applied at a rate of 15%, but not less than $3 per liter.

Currently, $1.4 is charged per liter of wine imported into the country.

For wines with an actual alcoholic strength of 18% by volume or less, a customs duty of 15%, but not less than $2 per liter, will also be applied until December 31, 2030. For wines in the process of fermentation or whose fermentation has been stopped by a method other than the addition of alcohol, which are currently not subject to an import customs duty, a customs duty of 15%, but not less than $3 per liter, will also be applied until December 31, 2030.

Currently, a 15% import customs duty is in force for concentrated wines with a density of 1.33 g/cm³ or less at a temperature of 20°C and an actual alcoholic strength not exceeding 1% by volume.

According to the amendment, a customs duty of 15%, but not less than $3 per liter, will also be applied to these wines until December 31, 2030.

This Decision will enter into force 90 (ninety) days after the date of its publication.
