Azerbaijani national serving in U.S. army dies by suicide

An Azerbaijani national serving in the U.S. Army, Turan Fehruz oghlu Islamli, has died by suicide.

Axar.az reports that Islamli was born in the village of Alachadirli in Azerbaijan’s Barda district. His father was originally from the Lachin district, while the family had lived in Barda for many years.

Islamli was an engineer by profession and a graduate of the Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction. He worked as an architect in Shusha for some time before moving to the United States, where he joined the U.S. Army.

He was also known as a talented chess player. He was one of four children and is survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

According to his relatives, Islamli obtained a U.S. Green Card and moved to the United States, where he later joined the Army.

“Turan was good at all subjects and took his exams in English. He came to Baku on leave yesterday and died by suicide this morning,” his relatives said.

No further information has been released about the circumstances surrounding his death.
