Archaeological excavations are underway at the ancient Khudutapa settlement in the Chemenli village area of Azerbaijan’s Jalilabad district.

Axar.az informs, citing Rеport, that clay hearth structures and their remains have been discovered during excavations at the multilayered settlement, according to Anar Agalarzade, head of the Mugan Bronze-Early Iron Age Archaeological Expedition.

The structures, measuring 40–45 centimeters in diameter, are believed to have been used for cooking.

Agalarzade said fine ash layers had formed inside the hearths as a result of prolonged use of fire. The finds are believed to date to the Late Bronze–Early Iron Age.

Excavations at the site are continuing.
