Today marks six years since the liberation of Sugovushan settlement and Talish village in the Aghdara district from the occupation by the Armenian armed forces.
Axar.az reports that on October 3, 2020, the Azerbaijani Army liberated both settlements from Armenian forces. On the same day, Azerbaijan’s tricolor flag was raised in Sugovushan and Talish.
The village, historically known as Sugovushan and renamed Madagiz during the Soviet era, was first liberated from occupation by the Azerbaijani Army in 1991–1992. However, it was reoccupied by Armenia in April 1994.
President Ilham Aliyev signed a law renaming Madagiz village as Sugovushan. On October 3, 2021, the head of state raised the Azerbaijani flag in Sugovushan settlement and Talish village.
It should be recalled that, under relevant orders signed by President Ilham Aliyev on December 29, 2020, and June 24, 2021, a group of military personnel were awarded the “For the Liberation of Sugovushan” medal.
It should be noted that on October 3, alongside Sugovushan and Talish, the villages of Mehdili, Chakhirli, Ashagi Maralyan, Shaybey and Quyjaq in Jabrayil district, as well as Ashagi Abdurrahmanli village in Fuzuli district, were also liberated from occupation by the Armenian armed forces.
