Jabrayil marks sixth anniversary of liberation

Today, October 4, marks the sixth anniversary of the liberation of Jabrayil city from Armenian occupation.

Axar.az reports that on October 4, 2020, in addition to Jabrayil city, nine villages in the district — Karhulu, Shukurbeyli, Cherekan, Dashkesen, Horovlu, Mahmudlu, Jafarabad, Yukhari Maralyan and Dajəl — were liberated from occupation. The Azerbaijani tricolor flag was raised in the liberated areas.

The liberation of Jabrayil restored partial state control over the Azerbaijan-Iran border.

Jabrayil district was occupied by Armenian armed forces on August 23, 1993. At the time of the occupation, the district consisted of one city, four settlements and 97 villages. On January 5, 1994, the village of Jojug Marjanli in Jabrayil was liberated during the Horadiz operation.

Six days after Azerbaijan's victory in the Patriotic War, on November 16, 2020, President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva visited the liberated Jabrayil district. The President raised the Azerbaijani flag in Jabrayil city and at the Khudafarin Bridge.

Under a decree signed by President Ilham Aliyev, October 4 is celebrated annually as Jabrayil City Day.
