World Teachers’ Day celebrated today

October 5 marks World Teachers’ Day, an annual observance honoring teachers around the world.

Axar.az recalls that on October 5, 1966, a conference jointly convened by UNESCO and the International Labour Organization adopted the first international document setting out the conditions of teachers’ professional activities, known as the “Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.”

In 1994, UNESCO designated October 5 as World Teachers’ Day. The date is also recognized by the United Nations as an international observance. The day aims to highlight the status of teachers in society and their vital role in education and development.

World Teachers’ Day is celebrated in more than 100 countries, while some countries also observe a national Teachers’ Day on different dates.

In independent Azerbaijan, October 5 was officially designated as Teachers’ Day in 1993.

On this special occasion, we extend our warmest congratulations to teachers in Azerbaijan and around the world, wishing them continued success and many proud moments with their students.
