A foreign cargo vessel named “Royad Mammadov” has come under a drone attack in the Black Sea, near the coast of Romania.
Axar.az reports that the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry said in a statement that, according to information received, the vessel’s captain, Azerbaijani citizen Rustam Ismayil oghlu Hasanov, born in 1974, was killed in the attack. Another Azerbaijani citizen, Mahammad Hamza oghlu Suleymanzade, born in 2002, is missing. Search and rescue operations are currently underway.
Other Azerbaijani citizens who were members of the crew have been rescued, while three of them have been hospitalized.
The Foreign Ministry is coordinating efforts with Azerbaijan’s diplomatic missions and the competent authorities of the countries concerned. Necessary measures are being taken to provide Azerbaijani citizens with medical and consular assistance, as well as to carry out the relevant procedures for repatriating the remains of the deceased.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of the deceased and wish those injured a speedy recovery.
Once again, Azerbaijani citizens are urged to refrain from traveling to areas where military operations are underway and the security situation remains unstable, as well as from working in such areas or aboard means of transport operating along high-risk routes, particularly vessels.
