Azerbaijani judoka wins bronze at World Championships - Video

Azerbaijani judoka Rashid Mammadaliyev has won a bronze medal at the World Judo Championships in Baku.

Axar.az reports that Mammadaliyev, competing in the -73 kg weight category, defeated Canada’s Justin Lemire in the round of 32 and Britain’s Ethan Nairn in the round of 16.

He then lost to France’s Daian Boulemtafs in the quarterfinals and entered the repechage.

Mammadaliyev defeated Italy’s Leonardo Valeriani in the bronze-medal contest before beating Brazil’s Daniel Cargnin to secure the bronze medal.

The World Judo Championships, being held at the National Gymnastics Arena in Baku, will run until October 11.

On the opening day, Azerbaijani judoka Ahmad Yusifov won gold in the -60 kg category, securing Azerbaijan’s fourth gold medal at the senior world championships and the country’s first-ever gold in the -60 kg division.
