Lukashenko calls Azerbaijan’s 2028 CIS chairmanship historic

Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko called Azerbaijan’s decision to assume the CIS chairmanship for the first time in 2028 a historic moment.

Axar.az reports, citing BelTA, that the Belarusian leader made the remarks during the CIS summit in Turkmenistan on 9 October.

“A new phase of development for our organization is the decision of the esteemed Ilham Aliyev [President of Azerbaijan] to assume the chairmanship for the first time in 2028. This is, undoubtedly, a historic moment. The president himself spoke about this as well,” he said.
