Iran’s Sahar (Sahar Azeri) TV channel presented footage of an event held in Turkiye’s Diyarbakir province as an event in Azerbaijan, portraying it as a rally in support of women wearing hijab in the country. This misrepresentation of both the location and the nature of the event constitutes a gross falsification of facts, a deliberate attempt to manipulate public opinion and a clear example of disinformation intended to mislead the audience, the Media and Broadcasting Council said in a statement.
Axar.az reports that the statement notes that Iran’s Sahar TV channel has engaged in disseminating biased and false information targeting Azerbaijan, as well as misleading public opinion through provocative content.
“The channel’s systematic distortion of events related to our country, its repeated dissemination of disinformation and its efforts to create a negative perception of Azerbaijan demonstrate that such activities constitute a key component of its information policy. It is precisely because of these persistent and biased practices that the channel has been blacklisted.
“The Media and Broadcasting Council calls on media outlets to ensure factual accuracy and objectivity in news reporting and to refrain from presenting information in ways that manipulate public opinion or distort the nature of events. It also urges the public to approach such posts critically, verify information against reliable sources and avoid becoming a tool for spreading disinformation,” the statement concludes.
