Today marks anniversary of liberation of Fuzuli city

Today marks the anniversary of the liberation of Fuzuli city from occupation.

Axar.az reports that as a result of the counteroffensive launched by the Azerbaijani Army on September 27, 2020, Fuzuli city was liberated from Armenian occupation on October 17, 2020.

From the beginning of the fighting until October 17, several villages of the Fuzuli district were liberated from occupation through successful military operations. Azerbaijani President and Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev announced the liberation of Fuzuli city in his address to the nation on October 17.

In his address, the President announced that, along with Fuzuli city, the villages of Gochahmadli, Juvarli, Pirahmadli, Musabayli, Chiman, Ishigli and Dadali in the Fuzuli district had also been liberated from occupation that day.

Fierce battles took place for the liberation of Fuzuli city. The Azerbaijani Army broke the enemy's resistance, forced it to retreat and inflicted a heavy defeat. During the Fuzuli operation, a significant number of Armenian military personnel and military equipment were destroyed.

The "For the Liberation of Fuzuli" medal was established in the Republic of Azerbaijan. By order of President Ilham Aliyev, military personnel who participated in combat operations for the liberation of the Fuzuli district and demonstrated personal bravery and courage were awarded the "For the Liberation of Fuzuli" medal.

October 17 was established as Fuzuli City Day by an order signed by President Ilham Aliyev.

The relocation of residents to Fuzuli city, another destination of the Great Return to the liberated territories, continues.

Recall that the Fuzuli district was occupied by the Armenian Armed Forces on August 23, 1993. During the occupation, Armenians destroyed Fuzuli city and the district's villages and committed acts of vandalism against religious, historical, and cultural monuments, cemeteries, as well as the natural environment.
