Six years pass since Armenia's missile attack on Ganja

Six years have passed since the fifth missile attack on the city of Ganja by the Armenian armed forces during the Patriotic War.

Axar.az reports that at around 1:00 a.m. on October 17, 2020, Armenian forces once again targeted the Javadkhan settlement in the center of Azerbaijan's second-largest city, located outside the frontline zone, using SCUD/Elbrus operational-tactical ballistic missiles.

As a result of the attack, residential buildings were completely destroyed, leaving residents trapped under the rubble. A total of 14 people were killed and more than 55 others were injured, while extensive damage was caused to numerous civilian infrastructure facilities and vehicles. Among those killed and injured were children, women and elderly people.

The Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan initiated a criminal case under several articles of the Criminal Code in connection with the incident.

It should be noted that during the Second Karabakh War, the Armenian armed forces launched missile and heavy artillery attacks on Ganja a total of five times — on October 4, 5, 8, 11 and 17. As a result, 26 people were killed and 175 were injured, while extensive damage was caused to civilian infrastructure facilities and vehicles in the city.

Recall that during the Second Karabakh War, a total of 93 civilians, including 12 children and 27 women, were killed as a result of Armenia's military aggression, while 454 civilians were injured. Damage was caused to a total of 12,292 residential and non-residential properties and 288 vehicles, and damage was recorded at 1,018 farms.
