Azerbaijan warns against fake statements attributed to Aliyev

False statements attributed to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev are circulating on Turkish social media, the Media and Broadcasting Council of Azerbaijan has warned.

Axar.az reports that the council issued a statement on the matter.

It stressed that attributing remarks the president never made to him and presenting them as his official position amounted to blatant disinformation intended to mislead the public.

"We reiterate that the president's official website and social media accounts are the primary and authoritative sources of information about his speeches, statements and activities. Any information on these matters should be based on these sources. Statements or opinions published elsewhere must not be attributed to the president unless they have been verified against official sources.

The Media and Broadcasting Council of Azerbaijan urges media outlets and social media users to verify information carefully, check it against official sources before sharing it, and refrain from spreading disinformation," the statement said.
