Angela Merkel to delete her Facebook account

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has decided to delete her personal page on Facebook, she said in a video message published on Friday.

Axar.az reports citing TASS.

She stated that until recently, she managed her account as chairperson of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). After leaving the position at the end of last year, Merkel does not see the need for a personal account.

"As you know, I am no longer head of the CDU. This is why I will delete my page in Facebook," Merkel said. She added that those who are interested in her political life can follow the account of the German federal government.

Merkel’s Facebook account has over 2.5 million followers.
