39- years old man’s legs amputated by a mine explosion

The Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) and the National Agency for Mine Action of Azerbaijan (ANAMA) issued a joint statement.

Axar.az reports that according to the statement, on January 1, 2021, in the morning, Azerbaijani citizen Zabil Babayev, born in 1981, got seriously wounded in a mine explosion in the newly-liberated Fuzuli district which resulted in traumatic amputation of both legs.

The prosecutor’s office and police officers inspected the scene, appointed a forensic examination and performed other procedural actions.

An investigation is underway at the Fuzuli District Prosecutor’s Office.

“Despite the repeated warnings from government agencies, citizens are evading posts to enter the liberated areas putting themselves at risk of mines and unexploded ordnance. The mines and unexploded devices are currently being cleared in these areas,” the statement reads.

The Prosecutor General’s Office, the MIA and ANAMA once again warn the population not to visit the liberated areas without special permission until they are completely cleared of mines and other explosive devices.
