President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has sent a letter to Vice President, Prime Minister and Emir of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

We are deeply saddened by the news of the death of a prominent statesman, President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the leader of his people, who showed great devotion to his country with all his life and activity, was highly influential in the international arena. He has made an exceptional contribution to the development and expansion of friendly and cooperative relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates.

I share your grief in these difficult times, and on behalf of myself and the people of Azerbaijan, I extend my deepest condolences to you, the family of the deceased, and the friendly people of the United Arab Emirates.

At the same time, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has sent a letter to His Majesty Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the United Arab Emirates. The text says:

"Your Majesty,

I am deeply saddened by the news of the death of your brother, a great man, the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who devoted his entire life and activity to the service of his homeland with dignity, has won the love and sympathy of his people. He made great contributions to the development of relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the United Arab Emirates. His bright memory will always live in our hearts.
