The visit to Karabakh will take place at the weekend under the auspices of the UN resident coordinator in Azerbaijan at the invitation of the Azerbaijani government.
Axar.az reports that UN spokesman Stefan Dujarric said this at the daily press conference.
The spokesman said that the mission will be headed by Ramesh Rajasingam, a senior official of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, and Vladanka Andreyeva, the resident coordinator of the UN in Azerbaijan. A technical team from OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health and Risk Management) and a representative of UN agencies will also be part of the mission.
S. Dujarric said that the Azerbaijani side respects the rights of ethnic Armenians and supports the restoration of international human rights in the region.
"The mission will enter the region from the territories of Azerbaijan. The team will try to assess the situation on the ground and determine the humanitarian needs of the people on both sides. Due to some complicated political issues, the UN has not been in the region for 30 years, and such a visit will be organized for the first time. The mission will be in the region for at least 10 days. will operate".
