Chairman of the Russian Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin, called Azerbaijan’s Prosecutor General, Kamran Aliyev, to inform him that a investigative team comprising professional investigators and criminologists had been formed to ensure a thorough, comprehensive, and objective investigation into a criminal case in Russia. He stated that the circumstances and causes of the incident, including external interference in the plane crash, are being fully examined, and intensive investigative and operational measures are ongoing to identify and prosecute those responsible.

Axar.az reports that this was mentioned in a statement issued by the Prosecutor General’s Office.

Notably, on December 25, an AZAL plane operating the Baku-Grozny flight was shot down by Russian air defense systems over Grozny's airspace, sustaining significant damage. As it was not granted landing permission, the plane diverted to Aktau but crashed near Aktau airport. Of the 67 people on board, 38 died, and 29 survived.
