Today is the Nowruz holiday in Azerbaijan.
Axar.az reports that Nowruz is an ancient folk holiday that symbolizes the arrival of spring, meaning "New Day."
Novruz is celebrated on the day of the vernal equinox (March 20, 21, or 22), when astronomical spring begins in the Northern Hemisphere.
Since ancient times, along with Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and some other Eastern peoples, Azerbaijani Turks have also celebrated the arrival of spring - the new year - with festivities.
On September 30, 2009, Nowruz was included in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List, and on February 23, 2010, the UN declared March 21 "International Novruz Day".
This year, spring will enter Azerbaijan on March 20 at 13:01:25.
March 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 and 31 are non-working days due to the Novruz and Ramadan holidays.
