FIFA may exclude Argentina from the 2026 World Cup

FIFA is considering the possibility of excluding the last world champion, Argentina, from the 2026 World Cup.

Axar.az reports that the publication "La Nacion" published information about this.

It is reported that this is due to the corruption scandal surrounding the leadership of the Argentine Football Association and interference by state authorities in the internal affairs of the federation.

As part of the investigation, searches were conducted at the offices of the president of the federation, Claudio Tapia, and other officials, on suspicion of illegal accumulation of wealth. The involvement of the national team sponsor "Sur Finanzas" in financial fraud is also being investigated.

It should be noted that FIFA is currently awaiting a decision from a local court. If the officials are found guilty, Argentina will be excluded from the World Cup to be held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
