Modric considering retirement after World Cup

Luka Modric is considering retirement following the upcoming World Cup, amid changes at AC Milan that may alter his plans to continue playing.

Axar.az reports, citing Football Italia, Modric had previously set key conditions for extending his career, including Milan qualifying for the Champions League and the continued presence of head coach Massimiliano Allegri.

With Milan failing to secure Champions League football and Allegri now dismissed, those conditions are no longer in place.

Modric is also described as having a strong professional relationship with Allegri, with the coach’s departure seen as a significant factor in his thinking about retirement.

Although Milan holds an option to extend the midfielder’s contract beyond June 30, club leadership is said to want to keep him for another season. However, persuading the 2018 Ballon d’Or winner to continue is now seen as uncertain.

The World Cup in the United States this summer is being viewed as a potential final chapter in Modric's international and club career.
