Turkiye sets unprecedented World Cup record after defeat

Turkiye’s national football team set an unprecedented World Cup record after losing 1-0 to Paraguay and being eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Axar.az reports, citing Turkish media, Turkiye became the team with the most shots without scoring a goal in its first two matches of a World Cup tournament since records began in 1966, registering 62 attempts.

Turkiye lost 2-0 to Australia and 1-0 to Paraguay despite dominating for long stretches in both matches.

The defeat made Turkiye the second team, after Haiti, to be eliminated from the tournament. Turkiye will conclude its Group D campaign against the United States.
