Azerbaijani MMA fighter Rafael Fiziev, who is set to headline UFC Fight Night Baku, has arrived in Baku.
Axar.az reports, according to the press service of the Baku City Circuit Operating Company, the athlete was welcomed at Heydar Aliyev International Airport by family members, friends, and numerous fans.
Commenting on the upcoming bout, Fiziev said he was delighted to return to his homeland.
"Coming back to Baku, to my native Azerbaijan, is a special feeling. An important and demanding fight lies ahead. I feel great, I'm fully prepared, and highly motivated. Right now, all my focus is on the fight, and I can't wait to step into the Octagon. Fans can expect an exciting contest. Whenever an Azerbaijani faces a Mexican fighter, it's always interesting, and this time will be no different."
Speaking about his opponent, Fiziev noted that his team had thoroughly studied Manuel Torres's fighting style.
"Many people say that my opponent often finishes fights in the first round. But in mixed martial arts, everything can change in an instant-one punch, or one mistake can decide the outcome. Torres fights aggressively, constantly moves forward, and puts full power into his strikes. He has indeed finished several of his recent fights early, but that has not affected my preparation or mindset in any way. Anything can happen inside the Octagon.
The road to this fight has been long. We have worked toward this for years, and now it is time to show the results. I invite all our fans to support us at the arena. Your energy gives us additional strength. I am confident that with the support of the crowd, we will proudly represent Azerbaijan and create an unforgettable atmosphere together."
It should be noted that UFC Fight Night Baku will take place on June 27 at the National Gymnastics Arena. In the evening's main lightweight event, Fiziev will face Mexico's Manuel Torres in the Octagon.
