Azerbaijan wins two gold medals at World Youth Chess

Azerbaijan won two gold medals at the FIDE World Youth Chess Championships in Montesilvano, Italy, after the final round of games was completed.

Axar.az reports that, according to the Azerbaijan Chess Federation, Zahra Allahverdi secured the world title in the Girls Under-14 category.

She drew with Turkiye's Tuana Abak in the 11th and final round to finish with 9 points, clinching the gold medal.

Azerbaijan's second gold medal was won by Khagan Ahmad in the Under-16 category.

The reigning European champion defeated Gleb Shcheglov, competing under the FIDE flag, in the final round. Ahmad finished the tournament with 9.5 points, claiming the first world championship title of his career.
