The 2026 U20 European Wrestling Championships have kicked off in Skopje, North Macedonia.

Axar.az reports that the finalists in the 55 kg, 63 kg, 77 kg, 87 kg, and 130 kg Greco-Roman weight categories were determined on the opening day. Azerbaijan's team enjoyed a successful start to the competition.

Emin Javadli (55 kg) dominated his opponents in Skopje, defeating Denizhan Ogun (Turkiye) 5-1, Lenny Woerner (Germany) 16-5, and Vasileios Papageorgiou (Greece) 9-0 to reach the final. He will face Edgar Petrosyan (Armenia) in Tuesday's gold medal bout.

Tural Ahmadov (63 kg) was eliminated in the Round of 16 after losing 9-0 to Giorgi Tchikaidze (Georgia).

Javidan Nehmatov (77 kg) secured victories over Luka Kajanne (Finland) 2-0, Nazar Berkovskiy (Russia) 8-0, and Alkan Akara (Turkiye) 3-1 to advance to the final, where he will take on Samvel Terteryan (Armenia).

Orkhan Hajiyev (87 kg) also reached the final with wins over Anton Buchholz (Germany) 9-0, Vladyslav Solodchuk (Ukraine) 11-9, and Itzhak Nemsadze (Israel) 9-0. He will wrestle Mikhail Shkarin (Russia) for the gold medal.

Entering the competition from the quarterfinals, Museyi-Kazim Huseyn (130 kg) defeated Lyova Shukhyan (Armenia) 2-1 before losing 9-0 to Ivan Yankovskyi (Ukraine) in the semifinals. He will compete for the bronze medal against Uzeyir Bostan (Turkiye).
