U20 World Wrestling Championships begin in Bratislava

The U20 World Wrestling Championships have begun in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Axar.az reports that, on the opening day, finalists were determined in the Greco-Roman wrestling events in the 63kg, 77kg, 87kg and 130kg weight categories.

In the 63kg category, Tural Ahmadov defeated Greece’s Marios Kapantais 6-1 before losing 3-2 to Uzbekistan’s Kuvonchbek Ismailov in the quarterfinals. As his opponent reached the final, Ahmadov will compete in the repechage tomorrow.

Cavidan Nehmatov made a strong start in the 77kg category, defeating Greece’s Adamantios Papadatos 8-0 and Kyrgyzstan’s Elkhan Choenbekov 9-0 to reach the quarterfinals. He then beat Kazakhstan’s Yerkebulan Anapiya 7-5 to advance to the semifinals, where he defeated Iran’s Amir Mehdi Nava 7-1. Nehmatov will face Armenia’s Samvel Terteryan in the final tomorrow.

Meanwhile, Orkhan Hajiyev (87kg) lost to India’s Akhil Akhil by fall in the qualification round, while Mikayil Ismayilov (130kg) lost to Finland’s Tomas Rusi in his opening bout on the first-point criterion after a 1-1 score.
