Sandro Mazzola, one of Inter’s greatest players and a legend of Italian football, has died at the age of 83.

Axar.az reports, citing Goal, that Mazzola spent his entire club career at Inter, making 566 appearances and scoring 162 goals between 1957 and 1977.

With Inter, he won four Serie A titles, two European Cups and two Intercontinental Cups. He was also the Serie A top scorer in 1965 and the European Cup’s leading scorer in 1964.

Mazzola played 70 matches for Italy, scoring 22 goals. He won the 1968 European Championship and was part of the team that reached the 1970 World Cup final, where Italy lost 4-1 to Brazil.

He was the son of Valentino Mazzola, the captain and symbol of the legendary Grande Torino team who died in the Superga air disaster in 1949.

After retiring, Sandro Mazzola worked as a sporting director at Inter and Torino. He was also involved in bringing Brazilian striker Ronaldo to Inter.

Inter paid tribute to Mazzola, describing him as “one of the greatest footballers in history” and saying he was not only part of the club’s history but “was Inter’s history.”

Mazzola later worked as a television football pundit and remained closely connected to Inter throughout his life.
