Mammadyarov follows leaders at Reykjavik Open

Azerbaijani grandmaster Shahriyar Mammadyarov is only half a point behind the leaders at the Reykjavik Open 2016.

Top seed Mammadyarov got his 3rd victory by defeating American IM Justin Sarkar in a sharp Grunfeld g3 line.

The Azerbaijani grandmaster scores 3,5 points after 4 rounds.

Indian Abhijeet Gupta tops the tournament with 4 points, as he continued his impressive form by showing the trumps of the Catalan opening, the slight extra space and the famous influence of the fianchettoed bishop on g2. English Gawain Jones also lead Reykjavik Open 2016 with perfect 4 points along with Gupta.

The 10-round tournament brings together 246 players from over 30 countries, including 32 grandmasters and 31 international masters.
