Spain's La Liga football club Barcelona transferred Ajax's Frenkie de Jong, the club announced.

"FC Barcelona and Ajax have reached an agreement for the transfer of midfielder Frenkie de Jong, who will be joining the Catalan club from 1 July 2019," Barcelona said in a statement on Wednesday.

Barcelona will sign the 21-year-old midfielder on for €75 million (some $85M).

The club added that an additional €11 million (some $12.5) in variables would be exacted for five-season transfer of de Jong until the 2023/24 season.

De Jong will continue to play for Ajax until the end of this season.
