Real Madrid renew Spanish forward Fernandez's deal

Spanish basketball powerhouse Real Madrid prolonged the contract of their veteran Rudy Fernandez until 2022 on Friday.

Axar.az reports citing Turkish media.

"Real Madrid C.F. and Rudy Fernandez have agreed on the extension of the player's contract, which sees him linked to the club until 30 June 2022," the club said on their website.

Rudy, 34, has been spending his ninth season with Real Madrid as he joined this club in 2011.

The Spanish international was picked for the All-EuroLeague first team in the 2012-2013 and 2013-2014 seasons.

This season, he averaged 8.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2 assists in 18 Turkish Airlines EuroLeague games.

Rudy is one of the most decorated Spanish basketball players, winning the 2015 and 2018 EuroLeague titles with Real Madrid.

The Spanish star became world champion twice with his nation in 2006 and 2019.

He was also a three-time European winner with Spain in 2009, 2011 and 2015.

Rudy was a silver medalist in the 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games. He earned the bronze in the 2016 Olympics as well.

In addition, Rudy played for the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers in 2008-2011.
