Azerbaijani judoka Hidayat Heydarov won a gold medal at the world championship held in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.

Axar.az informs that the 73-kilogram athlete defeated his opponent Tatsuki Ishihara (Japan) by ippon with 10 seconds left in the final.

This is the second gold award won in the world championship in the history of Azerbaijan judo. Until then, Elkhan Mammadov won this title in 2013.

Today, other Azerbaijani judokas - Yashar Najafov, Kamran Suleymanov (both 66 kilograms) and Achelya Toprak (57 kilograms) finished the competition without medals.

It should be noted that the world championship will end on May 23.
