President Joe Biden publicly addressed a report from Justice Department Special Counsel Robert Hur on Thursday in which the lawyer alleged Biden was a “well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,” provoking the president to defend his mental acuity at a press conference before he gaffed and called Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi “the president of Mexico.”
Axar.az reports that the head of the White House said this while answering a question about Gaza.
Biden’s press conference was announced with little warning and saw the president acknowledge the investigation into his handling of classified documents.
Biden forcefully responded to a part of Hur’s report which suggested the president couldn’t remember when his son, Beau Biden, died, saying “How in the hell dare he raise that?”
When asked about his son’s death, the president said it “wasn’t any of their damn business,” referring to investigators.
He then became emotional as he told reporters he has worn Beau’s rosary every day since the day he died in 2015, though his decision to trail off after saying the rosary came from “Our Lady of …” without naming the church led to widespread questions from critics who asked whether the omission was intentional.
Biden fielded an additional question about the Israel-Gaza conflict minutes after blasting Hur, in which he mistakenly called el-Sisi the president of Mexico while explaining the transportation of humanitarian aid into Gaza through Egypt.
