European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said she is pleased to accompany Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other European leaders to Washington tomorrow.
Axar.az reports speaking at a joint press conference with Zelensky, von der Leyen emphasized the EU’s steadfast support for Ukraine. “We will continue to support you for as long as it takes,” she said.
Von der Leyen stressed that peace “must be achieved through strength” and outlined key principles for a future deal. She highlighted the need for security guarantees to protect both Ukraine and Europe, the preservation of Ukraine’s territorial sovereignty, and no restrictions on Ukraine’s armed forces, including its ability to join international organizations and receive foreign assistance.
She also underlined that Ukraine’s international borders cannot be changed by force, adding, “These are decisions to be made by Ukraine and Ukraine alone. These decisions must not be taken without Ukraine at the table.”
Von der Leyen reiterated that as long as the bloodshed in Ukraine continues, the EU will continue with sanctions on Russia.
