Shootout in Turkey, one serviceman killed

A shootout has occurred in Lice city of Turkey’s Diyarbakir province during the operation of Turkish armed forces against the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) terrorist group, Hurriyet newspaper reported Sept.24.

One serviceman was killed as a result of the incident. However, the exact number of the injured hasn’t been specified.

Security forces have neutralized one PKK member.

The conflict between Turkey and the PKK, which demands the creation of an independent Kurdish state, has continued for over 33 years and has claimed more than 40,000 lives.

The UN and the European Union list the PKK as a terrorist organization.
